Kayak Beginner Full Day Adventure Details

Your day is based around a journey to explore some of the best bits of the River Wear; you will learn and practice new skills as you paddle. Each course is tailored to suit the aspirations of the group, but a typical course will involve personal paddling skills and stroke development, rescue and emergency procedures, tidal planning and navigation. Our friendly, experienced kayak coaches will deliver the course in a fun and relaxed way to help build your confidence and get the most out of your paddling. The Introduction to kayaking course is ideally suited to beginners, people who have little or no experience in a kayak, but who want a fun and exhilarating experience and to learn the skills necessary to go on a longer more adventurous journey. This course will provide you with the following skills:

  • Equipment knowledge
  • How to launch and land your kayak
  • Basic kayak control & paddling techniques
  • Learn the basics of how to predict the tide and plan a journey
When you arrive at our venue you will be met by a member of our team and they will fit you with your equipment and you will be given a short safety briefing and explanation in the use of the equipment before getting onto the water. You will be taught how to sit comfortably, control and stay safe in your kayak as well as hopefully interacting with some of the local wildlife.
